About Hurd & Co

DawnHurd.jpg

Hello...

I grew up watching my Mum, Nan's and Aunt's (I had 17) knit, natter and occasionally play cards for pennies, life in the small village of Stogursey was idyllic. Surrounded by lots of family and open fields we scrumped apples, played in hay barns, scuffed our knees and rode horses.

A country girl through and through finding inspiration for my products whilst out and about, usually when walking on the near by Quantock Hills.

When designing garments I start with four basic considerations  Comfort, Practicality, Simplicity & Style.

My knits are made by hand, they are meant to be worn daily and fundamentally made to keep you cosy and warm.

I am Dawn (Hurd) owner, founder and creator of Hurd and Co.

The Co is my fantastic family who help and support me each and every day.

My Story

Everything is made in my studio at home in Somerset with occasional  help from my mum and my teenage kids when it comes to social media, photography and  modelling which they love!

My Values

The notion of feeling lonely or isolated is such an alien concept to me.  I have, for as long as I can remember, been surrounded by a huge loving family, I have 45 first cousins!

Isolation & loneliness  amongst our friends, family and neighbours is a responsibility I feel we all share. Since experiencing Covid I am positive we all have a much better appreciation and understanding of just how  fragile our mental health can be.

With this in mind I was keen for my business to give  back to vulnerable members of the community who aren't as lucky as me to have a such a large support network.

And so 'Sit & Knit' was born.

The aim of Sit & Knit with Hurd & Co is to encourage chatter and laughter whilst we knit together.

The group was set up as a way to combat loneliness and to raise funds for Age UK Somerset.
